The 5-Minute Can't-Be-Arsed Workout

When motivation is missing, shrink the job until it’s almost insulting — then stop with a clear conscience.

Reviewed 20 September 2026

Some days the problem isn’t “what’s the optimal programme?”

It’s “I would rather dissolve into the sofa than put trousers on.”

Good. We planned for that.

The rule

Five minutes is a complete workout.

Not a warm-up for the “real” one. Not a moral compromise. A finished thing.

If you do more, lovely. If you don’t, you still did the workout.

Option A — leave the house (barely)

Do Just Put Your Shoes On:

  1. Go outside.
  2. Walk for five minutes.
  3. Stop if you want.

Success condition: went outside.

Option B — don’t leave the house

Do Can’t Be Arsed Strength:

Two rounds of chair squats, wall press-ups, lunges-or-more-squats, and a short plank (standing wall plank allowed).

Then stop. You’re allowed. The police will not be called.

Why this works (practical, not mystical)

Neurospicy.fit opinion / practical suggestion:

Starting is usually harder than doing. A five-minute ceiling lowers the threat level. Your brain doesn’t have to agree to a 45-minute saga. It only has to agree to a short, finite job.

Also: short workouts count. Habit research loves consistency theatre; real life loves “I did a thing and now I’m less stuck.”

Today’s training status (reminder)

  • 🔥 Smashed it
  • 🌶️ Did something
  • 🫠 Absolutely not happening

All three are valid states. Tomorrow is another day.

Just tell me what to do

Open the Give Me A Workout page, pick 5 min, and set energy to Absolutely not. We’ll pick something appropriately pathetic.

Want something to do right now?

Try Can't Be Arsed Strength — 5 mins, home.
